The objectives of the association are as follows:
- Bringing together industry players and academic research laboratories, specialists in oils and greases at the national and international level
- Organize or participate in national or international meetings, conferences, exhibitions
- Establish all libraries, documentation, files as well as participate directly or indirectly in the publication of all journals, bulletins or articles
- Establish relations with all French or foreign scientific or technical companies or personalities on all subjects related to the aims of the association
- To award scholarships or prizes intended to promote research of general interest in the oils, fats, lipids and related industries industry, and in particular through the annual award of the Chevreul Medal
Publish: the works, scientific and technical articles presented at general assemblies, plenary meetings, congresses and symposia in which it participatesIn concrete terms, SFEL:
- Organizes annual study days: the Chevreul Days
- Publishes the proceedings of these days in the OCL magazine
- Annually awards the Chevreul Medal to two researchers whose work is an authority in the field of lipids
- Awarded a thesis prize each year to a young researcher
