The Chevreul medal
In 1963, at the suggestion of its Honorary Chairman, Professor Emile André, the Groupement Technique des Corps Gras decided to award an annual medal to French or foreign personalities who had made a significant contribution to the development of knowledge or industrial achievements in the field of fats and oils.
This medal is known as the "Médaille Chevreul", a reminder that it was in France, thanks to the work of this illustrious scientist, that fat chemistry and lipochemistry were born.
It was engraved by the Monnaie de Paris after a profile of Chevreul, then aged 37, by David d'Angers.
The "Chevreul Medal" has been awarded annually since 1963 to a French and a foreign personality.
In 1993, to mark the Association's fiftieth anniversary, the Médaille d'Or Chevreul was awarded to Professor Pierre-Gilles de Gennes, winner of the 1991 Nobel Prize in Physics.
